Scholarships Description: Applications are invited for a three year full-time PhD studentship at Northumbria University, investigating neurocognitive performance in type 2 diabetes. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr Michael Smith (Northumbria University), Dr Leigh Riby (Northumbria University) and Dr Rachel Mitchell (Durham University).


The project will involve novel investigation of the cognitive domains which are adversely influenced by poor glucose regulation (in ‘healthy’ individuals), as well as in patients with impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes. The project will comprise empirical studies relating to our ongoing work on glucose regulation and cognitive functioning, however there will be some scope for the successful applicant to develop some of their own studies relating to this area of research. The project will involve both behavioural cognitive testing and EEG/ERP techniques, with the possibility of conducting some functional neuroimaging work.

Funding Notes
The studentship will provide a stipend of £13,590 per year for three years and will cover fees up to the equivalent of full time, home PhD fees for the same period.
