Scholarship Description: As PhD student in accelerator physics you will work with development of the technology around linear accelerators and electron guns with focus on the control, compression and diagnostics of the special electron pulses needed for Free Electron Laser (FEL) applications. This is a world of fundamental physics such as electrodynamics, relativity, mechanics and light propagation in an exciting mixture with spear head technology, lab work and new experiments in one of Sweden’s largest research facilities.
The group is today actively working with a test facility for FELs at MAX-lab on the control and optimization of sub pico second long electron pulses. The future work will be more closely related to the development of the short pulse capabilities in the MAX IV project which during the time of the PhD work will go from design to start-up and operation.
Eligibility
A masters degree in Engineering Physics, master in Physics or comparable.
